Karen Freeman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hodge Funeral Home - Saint Maries on Feb. 12, 2026.
Karen Christine Freeman (69), a long time resident of St. Maries, Idaho, passed away at her home on February 8, 2026. Karen was born on January 18, 1957, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Larry and Sue Blenden.

Karen grew up in Orofino, Idaho, where she learned early the value of responsibility, compassion, and caring for others. As a young girl, she had a unique opportunity to serve as a nanny for a local doctor's family-an experience that allowed her to travel with them and broaden her world. She was proud to be part of Orofino High School Class of 1975.

During high school, Karen was among the first tour guides hired at Dworshak Dam, a role she enjoyed greatly. Karen spent many of her employed years as a dental assistant and dental office manager, however one of her most memorable and favorite jobs was delivering milk for the local creamery in Orofino. It was during this time that she caught the attention of the man who would soon become the love of her life.

Though they had been acquaintances in high school, Karen began dating Tom Freeman in 1979. Their bond was immediate, deep, and enduring. Marrying in November of 1980 and beginning a marriage defined by unconditional love.

Karen and Tom made their home in Orofino, Idaho where the raised their children.

In 2000, the Freeman family moved to St. Maries, Idaho. Karen went to work at the front desk of Benewah Community Hospital, a role perfectly suited to her warm personality and caring nature. She quickly became a familiar, friendly face to patients and staff alike. She worked there for several years before declining health required her to retire.

Above all else, Karen was devoted to her family. She was fiercely protective and endlessly loving. She was supportive to her children, attending sporting events, concerts, and milestones with pride and encouragement. When her grandchildren came along, they became the absolute joy of her life. She loved them deeply and would do anything for them.

Karen found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved tending to her flower gardens, camping, riding ATVs, cross-stitching, scrapbooking, and crafting. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She was devoted to daily scripture study and had read her scriptures many times over. Karen was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where her testimony was strong and her love for her church family ran deep.

Karen is survived by her loving husband, Tom Freeman, at their home in St. Maries; her children, Keither (Bruce) Kirkpatrick of Lewiston, Idaho, and Matt Freeman of Post Falls, Idaho; her siblings, Gary (Syl) Blenden of Texas, Lori (Randy) Blenden of Lewiston, Idaho, and LeAnn (Sean) Brennan of Las Vegas, Nevada; her cherished grandchildren, Karlie Freeman,Raegan Kirkpatrick, Hadley Freeman, and Brooklyn Freeman; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Sue Blenden; her beloved daughter, Jessica Jane Freeman; and her brother, Mike Blenden.

A Memorial Service will be held on March 21, 2026, at 12:00 noon at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – St. Maries Ward, with a light reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
