Karen Friedman Obituary

Karen L. Friedman, age 72, of Farmington Hills, devoted wife, loving mother, faithful friend and committed member of her community, passed away Dec. 4, 2025, at Corewell Health Farmington Hills.
Karen was born Feb. 28, 1953, in Tawas City, the daughter of Marvin and Rhea (Rempert) Ulman.
Karen married Harold M. Friedman on Dec. 17, 1978, in Broomall, Pa. Her marriage and family were central to her life; above all else she treasured her daughter, Rachel, and took her role as homemaker with pride and devotion. Cleanliness, order and care for her home were expressions of the love she showed her family every day.
A strong-willed, honest and intelligent woman, Karen was never shy to share her opinions and stood firmly for what she believed was right. She was kind and generous, especially to those in need, and treated friends as family members, a reflection of the importance she placed on close relationships in a life rooted in a small family circle.
Karen's faith was a guiding force. She was a devoted member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Livonia for more than 40 years, living out her commitment to God, country and family, in word and deed. She was also a proud patriot who loved her country and its ideals, and she believed in duty and responsibility – including fiscal responsibility, which she viewed as a moral obligation. Material things meant little to her compared with faith, family and service.
Karen is remembered for her warmth, her principled life, and the care she gave to those around her. Her legacy of faith, family devotion, generosity and steadfastness will be carried on by all who knew and loved her.
Karen is survived by her husband of nearly 47 years, Dr. Harold M. Friedman; and her daughter, Dr. Rachel Friedman; as well as a wide circle of friends who became family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Rhea (Rempert) Ulman.
Karen's family will receive guests on Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 2 to 8 p.m., at Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, 23720 Farmington Rd., Farmington.
A funeral service is planned for Thursday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia.
Memorial contributions in Karen's memory may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 17810 Farmington Rd., Livonia, MI 48152 or to Tunnel to Towers.

We were neighbors with the Friedmans in Farmington Hills, MI for years.
Our children Rachel and Carl loved running through the neighborhood together and climbing trees!

Karen was very dear to all of us.
Kind, compassionate and caring...the perfect neighbor.

We are so terribly sorry for your loss, Hal and Rachel.
We know how much you loved Karen.

We loved her as well.

God bless you both at this difficult time.
