Parkway Funeral and Cremation Service - BismarckKaren Gail Hogue, 87, was united with her Lord and Savior on November 30, 2025, surrounded by family in Mandan, ND. Born in Bismarck to Elizabeth and George Hohimer, she completed her nursing education in 1960 before working two years in public health in Anchorage Alaska. She then completed her education as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in 1967 and was employed at St. Alexius hospital where she provided care for patients and subsequently created and chaired its CRNA training program for many years. Karen was joined in marriage to Jerome I. Hogue in 1958. To this union four children we born; Rita, Janice, Kellie and David. Jerome died in 1979. Karen married Peter Hogue (d. 2011) with whom she shared life during 37 years on their farm located on Hogue Island north of Bismarck where the children were raised.
Karen was quite pleased being a “farm wife” as she planted and cultivated a large vegetable garden each summer, amassing a hoard of Mason jars loaded with watermelon pickles, green beans, tomatoes, carrots and more. Another interest involved her work with ceramics and quilting. When her children were young, she accumulated ceramic molds along with a kiln and proclaimed the basement as Hogue’s Hobby Hut where, among other things, a significant number of ceramic praying hands were crafted. Her efforts decades later during winters in Arizona enabled creation of manger scenes complete with a variety of animals watching over Jesus which graced many fireplace mantels during Christmas seasons.
A faithful and long-time member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Karen was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth Hohimer, Jerome Hogue, husband Peter Hogue, siblings Beverly Olson, Lori Olson, David Mills, Denny Mills, George Hohimer and Diane Thomas. She is survived by siblings Doris Wanner, Kaye Dahl and Sharon Franklin; children, Rita (Dennis) Sommers, Janice (Jim) Towstick, Kellie (Troy) Pierce, David (Paula) Hogue; grandchildren: Nicole (Jordan) Walker, Danielle (Chance) Scally, Christopher (Dan) Schmaltz, Elizabeth Schmaltz, Caren Kinahan, Bridgette (Justin) Buman, Zachary (Amy) Steinle, Morgan Pierce (fiancé Trevor Lacher) Marshall (Hanna) Hogue, Megan (Levi) Roen, twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 AM Saturday, December 13 at Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N Second St, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, December 12 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck, and will continue one hour before the service.
