Karen Patricia (Baffuto) Maresco
September 25, 1958 – October 30, 2025
Karen (Baffuto) Maresco died peacefully at home with her family after a brave battle with cancer. Born on September 25, 1958 in The Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn (McCarthy) Baffuto, Sr.
In The Bronx, Karen attended St. Brendan's primary school and graduated from Mt. St. Ursula Academy in 1976. She attended nursing school before marrying her husband,Mark Maresco, on September 6, 1980. Mark preceded her in death in 2022 after 41 loving years of marriage.
Karen spent most of her adult life in service and generosity to others. As a young adult she served as a Beacon, NY volunteer ambulance member and sat on the board of the Beacon Health Committee. She worked as a school nurse's aide and at Tallix Foundry in NY. As her children grew she was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, Boy Scout Troop Leader, PTA President and CCD teacher. Once moving to Plymouth, she was a volunteer for Cranberry Hospice for 28 years where she received both the Angel of the Year honor and the Joy Jenkins Volunteer Award. She enjoyed her time volunteering with hospice so much that for the past 15 years she was employed in their office. Her family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care and support Karen received her friends and colleagues at Cranberry Hospice: Donna, Cheryl, April, Maureen and Teresa.
Karen was a phenomenally creative person. Upon moving to Plymouth from NY in1994, she took a stained glass class and was hired immediately by the teaching studio, Coastal Art Glass. One of her favorite sayings was "Oh, I can make that!" and it always came out better than the original! Whether a delicious meal, a piece of art, a cricut project, a party favor or candy buffet, she used her creativity to share love with those around her.
There were many simple pleasures in life that Karen enjoyed: dragonflies, going to the beach, casino trips and Las Vegas, Pepsi, scratch tickets, crafts, finding new ways to cook vegetables, red tootsie roll pops, NYTimes puzzles, dancing to The Rolling Stones, stale marshmallow peeps, Law and Order: SVU, the Kowloon and a spicy shishito pepper to name a few. She also enjoyed some luxuries in life- extensive travel with her husband before his passing and then with friends and family after. Her shoe collection is quite impressive for someone who wore a size 5! If ever there was a person who could turn a color into a personality trait, it was Karen with her love of all things
PURPLE!
Her most joyful times were spent in the presence of her family and her girl gang. Loving mother to two children, daughter Lauren Wolf and her husband Daniel of Lynnfield and son Christopher Maresco and his wife Dana of Plymouth. Adoring Grandmother to Adeleine and Isla Wolf and Vincent, Mia and John Maresco. Treasured sister to brother Joseph Baffuto, Jr. and his wife Greer and brother-in-law Mitchell Maresco, all of New York. Karen is survived by nieces and nephew: Alison (Vincent) Rowan, Jillian Maresco, Joseph Baffuto III and Isabella Baffuto and two great nieces: Emma and Molly. She leaves behind an incredible crew of friends: Virginia, Marie, Sue, Karen, Mary, Cheryl, Donna, Rosemary and many others.
Visiting hours will be held at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court Street, Plymouth on Friday, November 7 th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. with funeral service immediately to follow. Purple attire welcomed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
