Karen Martinez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by White Family Funeral Home on Jun. 16, 2022.
Karen Harris Martinez, 64, of Bowie, TX passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 14, 2022, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Karen requested a celebration of life be held in her honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. We request all of Karen's loved ones to join us in celebrating her beautiful life at First United Methodist Church, 1515 Jefferson St., Bowie, TX on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 11am. Rev. Todd Harris, District Superintendent, will officiate.
Karen was born on September 9, 1957 in Dallas to Roy O. and Myrtle Harris. She grew up in El Paso, TX where she graduated from W. H. Burgess High School. She represented Texas as Miss Texas in the Miss America Pageant. She worked as a paralegal and certified mediator for international law firms in Dallas for 20 years. She returned to El Paso to work in the family printing business. She graduated from Wesley Biblical Seminary, Jackson, MS with a Master of Divinity, where she met the love of her life, Rev. Steve Martinez. They were married on January 1, 2010. She felt the call to preach and pastored churches throughout the New Mexico and North Texas Conferences, most recently serving as pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls. She worked as a hospice chaplain for Hospice of Wichita Falls. For over 20 years, she preached the Word of God in season and out of season.
She fought the good fight. She completed the race. Now she has joined that mighty throng of witnesses. She enjoyed reading legal thrillers, watching murder mysteries, and game shows. Karen will be dearly missed and always remembered.
She was predeceased by Roy O. and Myrtle Harris.
Karen is survived by her brother, Ron Harris of El Paso, her daughter, Kathryn and Andy Sikes of Dallas; stepson, 1LT Rafael C. and Lindsay Martinez, Winchester, NH; 5 grandsons, and her husband Rev. Steve Martinez, Bowie, TX.
Memorials may be made in her name to First UMC of Bowie, or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
