Karen P. Penick, 67 of Terre Haute, passed away very unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 in an automobile accident.
Karen was born on August 27, 1957 in Dayton, Ohio to Edward L. Hutchinson and Elizabeth J. Norton.
To know Karen was to love her. She would give you the shirt off of her back, even if it meant she did without. Karen loved her family and spending time with them. She loved cookouts and birthday parties with everyone together. A day at the park or a night at the drive-in. Her heart belonged to her grandchildren.
Karen is survived by daughter Virginia Huey and son-in-law Josh Huey, daughter-in-law Savannah Gibbs, and her grandchildren; Hunter Gibbs, Dylan Huey, Alyssa Gibbs, Michael Huey, and Ollen Huey, as well as her great grandson Archie Todd Sparks. She is also survived by her brothers Cecil Hutchinson, Paul Hutchinson, Jack Hutchinson, and Matthew Hutchinson, her best friend Becky Gibson, nieces Jane Hutchinson, Nicole Elrod, Nova Varvel, Ashley Varvel, Heather Marcus, Summer Williams, Dana Hutchinson, and Kierah Hutchinson, nephews Aaron Marshall, Thomas Hutchinson, Paul Hutchinson, Brian Hutchinson, Matthew Hutchinson, Brian Ball, and Joseph Hutchinson, as well as many great nieces, nephew, cousins, and aunts and uncles.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Richard Todd Gibbs, great granddaughter Kinzleigh Blayke Gibbs, nephew David Wayne Hutchinson, sisters Julia Bassa and Cynthia Marshall, and a sister-in-law, Kimber Hutchinson.
Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd. St., West Terre Haute, In on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 1:00 PM, with Tracy Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home.
