Karen Jeanne Krzysik (Raquepau), 83, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026.
Born on September 25, 1942, to Alden and Victoria Raquepau, Karen was raised with the values of faith, family, and perseverance that would guide her throughout her life. She carried herself with quiet strength, deep compassion, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Krzysik, who passed away in 1995. Their life together was marked by dedication to family and a shared commitment to the values they instilled in their children.
Karen was a devoted mother and a proud grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Julie, and Julie's husband, Jack, along with her beloved grandsons, Matthew and Mark. She is also survived by her son, Edward Krzysik, and his wife, Melissa, and her cherished grandchildren, Nathaniel and Abigail. Her family was the center of her world, and she took great joy in their accomplishments, milestones, and everyday moments together. Karen is also survived by her brother, Alden Raquepau. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and his oldest son, Paul. Alden's living children are Beth and Philip.
Karen had a lifelong love of history and reading. She found joy in learning about the past, often sharing stories regarding her family genealogy and preserving the memories of those who came before her. Books were her constant companions, and her appreciation for history reflected her belief that understanding the past helped guide the future.
She also found great happiness in time spent with family on trips to Florida to visit loved ones. Some of her most treasured memories were the special moments shared with her children and grandchildren at Walt Disney World, where laughter, joy, and togetherness created lasting family traditions.
She will be remembered for her steady presence, gentle wisdom, and the deep love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the traditions she upheld, and the family she so dearly cherished.
Karen's life was one of quiet impact and enduring grace. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, Virginia 20155, on February 28, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Stefan Starzynski as celebrant. Deacon Francis Skorija will assist with the Mass.
Interment will follow at approximately 1:30 p.m. at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Boulevard,
Arlington, Virginia 22201, where Deacon Francis Skorija will lead the graveside service.
