Karen Marie Sanders

Karen Sanders, 63, of Nanticoke, PA, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on November 9, 2025.

She was born on April 2, 1962 to the late Michael John Washney and Patricia Cecilia Washney (nee Schinse). She grew up in Wilkes Barre and was a graduate of Bishop Hoban High School.

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her sisters Gayle Washney and Linda Ann Washney.

Karen was a fun-loving and caring individual. She was happiest at the beach with a cold beer and a nice read. She loved listening to music, especially Tom Petty. She loved animals and the light of her life was her dog, her best boy, and her favorite child Campbell.

Karen is survived by her loving husband, Ricky; her children, Christina and her husband Bill, John and his partner Mike, and Heather and her husband Bill; her beloved grandchildren Hailee and Jordan; her sister-in-law, Pamela; and many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the family's convenience.

The family would like to thank the staff at Geisinger Hospital and the Gift of Life program for the exceptional care they provided Karen and for helping the family navigate this difficult time.
