Karen Ann Wood Smith, 68, of Topsham, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, with her loving family at her side. Karen battled Parkinson's Disease since 2011.

Born in Bath, Maine, on November 17th 1957, the daughter of Robert E. and Adele T. Cote Wood. She was raised in Topsham and attended St. John's Catholic School and Mt. Ararat High School, graduating in 1976.

On November 21, 1981 she married the love of her life, Terence M. Smith, together they built a family in Topsham, next door to her parents and exemplified a loving, adoring committed marriage for 44 years.

In her early years she worked at The American Red Cross, Maine State Music Theater, L.L. Bean and later at Bath Iron Works.

She and Terry lovingly welcomed three children, a daughter, Kate in 1983 then twin boys Taylor and Scott, in 1989. They adored their granddaughter, Madison, born in 2005.

Anyone who knew Karen, knew her incredible laughter, huge smile, enthusiastic conversations and her devotion to her family. She was a passionate cyclist and participated in the Trek Across Maine three times, a mountain to sea cycling fund-raiser for the American Lung Association. In retirement Karen and Terry travelled coast to coast and everywhere in between by RV, visiting their friends, family & children, chasing their dreams, making memories in America's beautiful natural landscapes, with her faithful pup, Riley, by their side.

She is survived by her husband Terry, her children Kate, Taylor and Scott, her granddaughter Madison, and her sister Kathy.

On May 9, 2026, a springtime celebration of life service will be held for joyful remembrance with family and friends.
