Obituary Karen Marie Townsend
Karen Marie Townsend returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on November 7th, 2025. Karen was born on June 24, 1955 in Provo, Utah to Shirley Dale and Beverly Joy Goodman.
Karen spent her younger years in various areas in Utah before finally settling in Blackfoot, Idaho in the 70's. Later she attended Ricks college, where she met her first husband Dean Wood. They were later married in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 24th 1975, to this union her daughter Amara was born. They later divorced
She spent the next many years dedicated to raising her daughter, work and to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. During this time she would meet and later marry Darrell Townsend in May of 1994. Upon which she gained 3 step-children. After Darrell's untimely death in 1998 she spent the majority of her last years with Albert Jobe where she gained an adopted daughter Melissa Jobe.
Karen loved to travel, she was always saying "let's get out of dodge" often to go fishing, camping or just for a drive into the woods to have a picnic. Yellowstone being one of her favorites she visited almost yearly. She also loved to go down to Phoenix to the NASCAR races.
Above all else if there was one thing Karen loved to do it was read, she was never more than an arms length from a book, She would always be found in any free moment with her nose buried reading anything and everything. To this she had books tucked everywhere, in the car, her purse, by her recliner and the dining room table. It would not be unheard of for her to be reading several books at one time it just depended on where she was sitting.
She also loved games, whether it was cards, board, and even video games. She was the undefeated family Boggle champion. Her favorite among these was was the annual bingo game held right after Thanksgiving dinner. A long standing tradition to ring in the Christmas season Karen loved to shop for all the prizes grabbing candy, toys and ornaments for the tree, making sure that everyone was a winner.
Karen is survived by her daughter Amara VanderSys (Mike), her son Darrell Townsend (Melanie), Edwin Townsend (Sonjia) and adopted daughter Melissa Jobe. As well as her grand-children Darrell and Jaren VanderSys, Erla, Jacoby and Draven Jobe, Jayden Anderson, Emily and Madison Hardy, Tatjana, Taylor, and Trey Lentz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marlene Larson (John), husband Darrell Townsend, partner Albert Jobe, and grandson Anthony Dale VanderSys.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the Blackfoot South Stake Center, 900 Riverton Road, under direction of the Hawker Funeral Home. The family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the Grove City Cemetery.
