Karena P. Wechter

Karena P. Wechter, 49, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on April 30, 2024.
Karena was born on May 29, 1974 in Galesburg, Illinois to Paul Robert and Martha Ann Wechter.
She attended school in Westmont, Illinois; Martin City and Lee's Summit, Missouri. She graduated from high school and attended a community college for 1-2 years. She worked as a waitress and a cashier at Ponderosa and then at a Daycare facility.
Karena is survived by her partner, Teryl Blogg; his parents, Larry and Mary Blogg; her parents, Paul Wechter, Martha McCreary and step-father, Jack McCreary; many family members-Blogg Family, Wechter Family, McCreary Family, Horanzy Family and Selsor Family.
At Lee's Summit High School, she was called "Ena" by her friends. Karena enjoyed family and friends and those who cared for her. She also enjoyed music. She played the trombone and piano. She belonged to Brownie and Girl Scout troops and M.Y.F. (Methodist Youth Fellowship). She enjoyed scout and church camps.
She enjoyed nature, camping, fishing, birds, flowers and night skies. She enjoyed riding her bike, ice and roller skating and four wheeling. She enjoyed games and cards, watching car races, wrestling matches, football and baseball.
Her pets have been many. A dog named Patches, a rabbit, a ferret named Jasmine, 5 cats and dogs named, Willie and Sammy, which gave her much comfort and pleasure.
Her name "Ena" even became the name of an animal when addressed-"Hi, Ena" (hyena) in high school.
Having no children of her own, she was an Aunt to a friend's children (like a mother).
Karena's final act of kindness was to be the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
Funeral Service for Ms. Wechter will be on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Funeral Services of Independence at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm at the chapel. Interment Valor Park Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rose Brooks Center.
