Karma Evanosky passed away peacefully at The Oaks at Northpointe, Zanesville OH on September 9, 2024 at the age of 83.
Born on June 22, 1941, Karma was a lifelong resident of
Amsterdam, OH. She was a retired millworker from Titanium Metals Corporation (TIMET) of Toronto, OH, where she endured an exhausting swing shift schedule and, as the sole provider for her three children, tolerated working in an environment antagonistic to women. As a result, she taught her children to be independent and self-reliant, but also made sure there was always time to be silly and to have fun every day, especially when the going got tough.
Karma loved to read and listen to music. She loved Elvis Presley more than anything, but she was content listening to any music that would get her toes tapping. Babies would cry if she tried to sing, so the secret recordings of her belting out songs by artists including Neil Diamond, Madonna, Prince, and Celine Dion will be buried with her.
Karma loved the ocean, especially at sunrise with coffee in hand. She was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and she was notorious for going completely overboard at Christmas, which in days past would traditionally begin with an annual Black Friday shopping trip.
Karma is survived by her daughters, Sandy (Ted) George of Powell's Point, NC, and Connie Shriver of McConnelsville, OH; her daughter-in-law Rhonda Evanosky of Charleston WV; several grandchildren including Ryan (Kelsey) George of Wintersville, OH, Corey George of Kitty Hawk NC, and Craig Russell of Hopedale, OH; and several great-grandchildren, including Harper Mackenzie and Lillian Karma George of Wintersville, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Lena Hamilton, her husband Edward Evanosky, her son Edward Evanosky, her brother Jim Hamilton, her grandson Bradley "BJ" George, and her son-in-law, Rick Shriver.
The family would like to thank Shrivers Hospice for the incredible work they do each and every day for families going through the most difficult of times. There are not enough words of gratitude for the staff at The Oaks at Northpointe for the incredible care they provided to "Mimi" over the last 8 years. The peace of mind we had knowing she was well-cared for, and the fact that we got to treasure "mom moments" over the past years are truly priceless.
Karma lived a life that was full as she traveled each and every highway. She may have had a few regrets, but then again, too few to mention. Karma always did what she had to do and saw it through without exemption. She loved; she laughed and cried. She had her fill, her share of losing. And now, as tears subside, she'd find it all so amusing. To think she did all that. And may we say, not in a shy way? The record shows she took the blows. She faced it all, and she stood tall.
And did it her way.
A celebration of life calling hours will be held at Dodds Funeral Home in
Amsterdam, Ohio, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 3-6 pm. Private burial service will be held for the immediate family at the Bergholz Cemetery.
