Katharine N. Griffith

Katharine N. Griffith, 93, an eight year resident of Cordova and formerly of Edgewater, died March 21 at Easton Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 12, 1915 in Richmond, Va. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's of science degree in 1969. She taught elementary school for Anne Arundel County schools from 1957 to 1977. She was a volunteer at the Smithsonian Wildlife Preserve, a tutor for underprivileged children, taught for the Peace Corps on the Ivory Coast in Africa in the late 1950's. She was a survivor of polio at 3 years of age and learned how to walk after many years. She loved to travel. She was preceded in death in 1977 by her husband, Martin Griffith whom she married in 1931; and one son, Martin Griffith Survivors include four sons, John R. Griffith, Sr. of Seaford, Del., George E. Griffith of Suffolk, Va., Albert W. Griffith of Severna Park and Charles R. Griffith, of Annapolis; one daughter, Mary L. Brierly of Cordova; three brothers, John T. Nuckols III of Richmond, Va., Warren L. Nuckols of New Mexico, and Jean Nuckols of Mechanicsville, Va.; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 19 great great-grandchildren.
