Katharine "Trina" Baker Riordan

Katharine (Trina) Baker Riordan, 91, of Hartland, Michigan, passed away peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on November 26, 2025. She was born on February 26, 1934, in Toledo, Ohio, the youngest of three daughters of Arthur Lorenz and Gratia Katharine Baker.
Trina attended the Emma Willard School in Troy, New York, before enrolling at Michigan State University, where she earned her degree in education. She began her professional life teaching fifth grade in California, demonstrating a lifelong dedication to the growth and well being of children.
Trina devoted herself to raising her children while continuing to pursue her many passions. She was an accomplished horsewoman who found great fulfillment in teaching riding-encouraging professional, amateur, and backyard enthusiasts alike. She was instrumental in creating the pony division of the Michigan Hunter Jumper Association (MHJA). An artist at heart, she expressed herself through watercolor painting, sculpting, and the creation of her beloved handmade mittens. Trina also spent twenty happy winters in Sarasota, Florida, a place she cherished for its warmth, beauty, and vibrant community.
She had a natural charisma that drew people in, forming meaningful friendships wherever she went. She loved to laugh and had a gift for finding humor in everyday moments. Above all, she was profoundly proud of her children and took a joyful, genuine interest in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Trina is survived by her four beloved children: Kim (Todd) Segula of Milford; Betsy (Mark) Maloney of Madison, Wisconsin; Jane (David) Sukosky of Howell; and Rick (Jen) Riordan of Northville.
She was the proud grandmother of Dean Segula; Kate (Ryan) Rau; Ella (Ian) Keyser; Gratia (Becky) Maloney; Martha and Anne Sukosky; and Samantha, Jack, and Callie Riordan. She is also survived by her three great grandchildren: Tessa, Isla, and Mathis.
Trina is survived by her sister, Lucy Shutt, and was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Patterson. She was formerly married to Richard (Dick) Riordan.
Trina will be remembered for her independent spirit, her artistic gifts, and the joy of life she shared with so many.
