Katherine Altizer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ingram Funeral Home - Marysville on Jun. 16, 2024.
Katherine M. "Kathy" Altizer, 68, of Marysville, formerly of Unionville Center, passed away peacefully, late Thursday evening, June 13, 2024, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
One of four children, Kathy was born September 21, 1955, to the late James W. and Marie (Roseberry) Smith. A 1974 graduate of Fairbanks High School, she met a charming young man by the name of Dennis M. Altizer, who was a stock boy at Scotty's where Kathy was a clerk. After one date, they were glued at the hip, and Kathy's family embraced Dennis as one of their own. Inseparable, they married in 1975, and began a treasured 49-year adventure together of dedication, love and family.
Kathy spent most of her working career as a cook for Marysville schools, and at the Union County Auditor's office. She enjoyed baking, especially her banana nut bread for both the Union County and Upper Arlington farmer's market, making around 40 loaves for each visit. While she did enjoy her cooking, it did not compare to her passion for gardening. She was an enthusiastic and fervent gardener who knew everything about every flower, and she cultivated a beautiful garden and greenhouse at her home. Kathy simply loved to plant and took great joy in watching things grow. The only thing that surpassed her love for gardening, was her love for her family. Open and loving, Kathy adored her husband, children, and grandchildren. She chased her grandchildren through every activity they had, and relished each day they had playing board games together and sharing seasonal traditions. She laughed easily, loved fiercely, and left beautiful memories for each of her loved ones to cherish and pass on for many years to come.
Kathy is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Dennis; their children Joseph M. "Joe" (Lindsay) Altizer and Elizabeth M. "Liz" (Kenny) Chaffin both of Marysville; beloved grandchildren Andrew "Drew" and Camille Chaffin, Addison and Quinn Altizer; siblings Phylis Hannah, Darrell Smith, and Dwayne (Vicki) Smith; and several nieces, nephews, good friends and her sweet dog, Misty.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Lester Hannah.
Calling hours will be 4-7 pm Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Ingram & Snyder Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville, where funeral services to celebrate Kathy's life will be held 11 am Friday, June 21, 2024. Pastor Connie Simpson will officiate, and burial will follow at Maskill Cemetery.
