Katherine Elizabeth Ely

Katherine E. Ely Katherine Elizabeth Ely, 93, of Fairmont passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 24, 1922 in Marion County the daughter of the late Lawrence Welch and Goldie Shumaker Welch Yoho. She was a homemaker, loving wife and mother to her two sons. She had worked briefly at the Owens Illinois Glass Plant during WWII. She was a Methodist by faith. Kate was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball fan. She enjoyed growing flowers and was an avid bird watcher. She is survived by a son Gary Ely and his wife Cindy of Fairmont; six grandchildren and their spouses, Clinton and Carla Ely of Florida, Aaron and Katherine Hickey Ely of Fairmont, Jason and Jessica of Fairmont, Megan Ely and her fiancée Seth Jarrett of Fairmont, Sara Ely and Ed Fairley of Fairmont and Kimi Ely of Fairmont; great grandchildren, Asher, Graham, Maddox and Reid who is on the way. Also surviving is her step sister, Pauline Whittington of Ohio. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Ely in 1994; a son, Thomas Ely in 2013, a brother, Lawrence Ely, in 1944 while serving in WWII and her Step father, James Yoho.
