A letter to Katherine "Kay" McClellan
You were born in New York City, graduated from the Hewlett School and the Tobe'-Coburn School.
The Shrewsbury River was your teenage playground, where you and your friends would hang out on boats and the little islands on the river, you met a lot of really nice people, including your future husband.
Buck went off to the Naval Academy, and you went off to New York City working in advertising at BBDO on Madison Avenue. In your spare time, you were off exploring Europe.
You and Buck married, and immediately understood what life had in store for you, not only was Buck serving our country, but so were you, as a Navy wife.
We have always known you as the "Queen of Volunteers", whether supporting the ship's families while at sea, volunteering more than 2,000 hours at Navy Relief Society, being Volunteer of the Year for the Calvert Marine Museum, S.M.I.L.E. Food Pantry and Centre Peace, volunteering at your kids schools, scouting and at church, wherever we lived.
We know that one of your greatest accomplishments was the Plant Sale at Middleham/St. Peter's, where it started as a small table and a small contribution to a huge plant sale with a sizable contribution to the Church. As a gifted gardener you will always be remembered in your magnificent gardens.
You lived your life to serve people in any manner possible and the only thing you asked for in return was love. You were a great teacher with subtle hints, nudges and encouragement. Your ideals have become part of the everyday lives and we will continue to follow the guiding light you instilled in all of us.
You are survived by your son Parker and wife Connie, daughter Bobbie and husband George and four grandchildren, Travis, Chuck, Parker and Kady and great granddaughter, Parker Kay, brother Victor and wife Nancy and sister-in-law Barbie and numerous nieces and nephews, whom you loved dearly.
Your desire to help continues today with your support of a new program at St. John's Episcopal Church started in honor of the late Deacon Alex, "Feed Them Like Family", a program to help those with the occasional need for a meal or meals as a result of something out of their control. The family requests in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to "Feed Them Like Family", St. John's Episcopal Church 120 W. Lamb Street
Bellefonte, PA 16923.
Mom, Grandma, Aunt Kay, Kay, we love you and you will always be remembered.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 120 W. Lamb Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM, at the church, with The Very Reverend Ruth Ferguson officiating. Kay will be laid to rest with her husband, Captain Parker W. McClellan, USN, (Ret.) at the United States Naval Academy Columbarium, in a private service. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
