Kathleen Burt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schepp Family Funeral Homes, Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel on Mar. 18, 2026.
Kathleen Mary Hage Burt, longtime educator, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died peacefully March 16, 2026, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, surrounded by family, after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 74.

Born April 26, 1951, in Little Falls, New York, Kathy was the daughter of the late Peter Shaheen Hage and Margaret Sarah Brox. She grew up in Fort Plain, NY, where she helped at her family's business, the Hotel Fort Plain.

A graduate of The College of Saint Rose with a degree in education, she spent more than three decades teaching mathematics in the Parish, Mexico, and Oswego school districts. Generations of seventh-grade students remember her for the patience and encouragement she brought to the classroom.

She married Robert Burt on August 2, 1980, and together they built a life centered on family, faith, and service to others in Oswego, New York. She loved her family deeply as a wife, mother, grandmother, cousin, and aunt.

Mrs. Burt was also active in her church and community. Through her work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, as well as the Human Concerns Food Pantry, she helped organize and support annual Thanksgiving and Christmas outreach programs that provided food and gifts to families throughout the area. Through charity and service, she quietly helped many families in need. She also volunteered for many years at Harborfest and the Utica Boilermaker, and could always be counted on to help family whenever a need arose.

Proud of her Lebanese heritage, Kathy carried forward a deep tradition of family, recipes, and hospitality. She enjoyed yoga and kayaking, was a skillful gardener, and loved birdwatching, traveling, and spending time outdoors. Above all, those who knew her best remember her as someone who quietly looked for ways to help others.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Burt; her children, Christopher Burt (Elisabeth Henry) and Steven Burt; her grandchildren, Charles, Benjamin, and Margot; her brothers, Peter Hage (Dora) and Paul Hage (Elaine); her sister, Elizabeth Hage Babcock (Ray); and a great many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She will be remembered for her humor, kindness, and quiet strength, and for her deep devotion to family, faith, community, and the many students whose lives she helped shape.

The funeral Mass will be 11:00 am on Monday, March 23 at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, 50 E. Mohawk St., Oswego, NY 13126
