Kathleen Cecile Butler
On Saturday, November 27, 2021 Kathleen (Kathie) Butler passed away at the age of 80.
Kathie was born on July 6, 1941 at St. Mary's Hospital in DeKalb, Illinois. She was the fourth of five girls born to J.C. and Alice Mills. She had three older sisters Judy, Carolyn, Mary and one younger sister Donna. Kathie attended Catholic school through 8th grade and then went on to graduate from DeKalb High School. Kathie raised 6 children: Maria, Jack, Mark, Nancy, Andy and Chris. In her 30's Kathie went on to get her certification to become a licensed drug and alcohol abuse counselor. She spent decades working in this field.
Everyone who knew Kathie was immediately drawn in by her bright smile and vibrant personality. From the time she was little, Kathie had a paper route and was faithful to deliver the paper on a daily basis to the people of DeKalb. That hard work ethic would follow her the rest of her life whether it was raising her six children or helping hundreds of people struggling with addiction. Raising children and working with addicts can be heavy work, yet Kathie could always find a way to laugh in the midst of it all. She never met a stranger and made everyone who met her feel special.
Kathie grew up in a family that loved sports which carried over to a lifelong passion for the Chicago Cubs, the Minnesota Vikings and Nascar. In 2015 Kathie surprised everyone by playing the part of Grandma Loretta in the movie "Catching Faith" which is still streaming on Netflix. This opportunity helped her fulfill a childhood dream and in spite of being in her 70's she was a natural at acting.
Kathie found great strength in her faith as a Christian. She prayed for others daily and loved to attend Bible studies and prayer groups. It was her faith that carried her through difficult times and she loved to share with people unashamedly that it was the most important thing in her life.
Kathie is preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Alice Mills, and her loving husband of 17 years Phares (Pete) Butler. She is survived by her 6 children: Maria Singleton (Ajo, AZ), Jack (Sahoko) Barker (Tokyo, Japan), Mark (Jill) Barker (Rockwall, TX), Nancy (Jayne Anderson) Barker (Eau Claire, WI) Andy (Chinatsu) Barker (Tokyo, Japan,) Chris (Tracie) Butler (Eau Claire, WI), 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her 4 sisters Judy, Carolyn, Mary, and Donna as well as her loving companion of the last several years Russel Martoccio.
A public service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 10:00 AM for Kathie at Grace Baptist Church at 11591 17th Ave., Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." Matthew 5:4 Kathy may be gone from our sight, but certainly NOT from our hearts! The Forden's love you and will miss you dearly. We, (I), weren't ready for you to leave us, but know that you are with our Savior and Lord. I can hear you now talking with Jesus, "Yeah, right...ya know what I mean?!" Accompanied by your gregarious laugh and those shining, joy filled eyes. Kathy, you love us ALL well, right where we are, no pretense, just love, love given to you by our heavenly Father to share with us. Selfishly, there were so many other things to do, places to see with you, drives to enjoy God's creation. We'll be with you in Glory to worship and Praise our Savior first hand - together. To our friend and mentor, to God be the glory! With all our love, The Forden's

My message was to be put into the photos that I shared from the recent SELAH Women's Retreat where I met Kathie. She had so much ZEAL for the Lord, and it was a blessing to share the time with her. The photos are from November 14th weekend. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Kathie was the most special person we have ever met. She was so full of joy.our only consultation is that she went fast which was what she spoke about often. It is the only thing that eases our hearts in this time of unbearable sadness.

Kathy was one of the greatest people I had the pleasure ever meeting. She was always there to talk when I needed someone to talk to. Her willingness to help anyone at any time will never be forgotten. She was truly a special person and she was a great role model in my life, and I'm glad I had the pleasure of being her friend.
