Kathleen Demers Obituary
RICHFORD - Kathleen Mae Demers, age 84, passed away Sunday morning, April 21, 2024 at the Northwestern Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mae was one of 14 children born to Peter Moses Ryea and Evelyn (Ducolon) Ryea.
She worked at Major Garments and Misty Mountain in Richford and Enosburg and she was very proud of her own sewing shop in Quebec. She also enjoyed helping her daughter-in-law, Carey in her daycare. Most of the daycare kids knew her as Grammy.
She was an active member of the Richford Lions Club, United Methodist Women's Auxiliary, Methodist choir, Richford Community Choir, and the Richford Farmer's Market.
She enjoyed sewing, growing plants, participating in her longevity classes with Rossie, wearing her red lipstick, and her nightly board games at Missisquoi Manor. She also liked to travel. She enjoyed her annual Maine trip with Debbie, Lynne, and Arlene, and most recently with Debbie and Nancy to Arizona and Florida.
She leaves five children, Debbie and Danny Desautels, Dan Brown, Leon and Lena Brown, Nancy Greenwood, and Mort and Carey Greenwood; one step-son, James Demers; 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and at least 100 nieces & nephews. She also leaves sisters, Bertha (Jessie) Farrand, Martha Machia, and Verna Jones; and brothers, Eugene, George, Vern, and Alan Ryea; and her special friends from the Manor; Arlene, Kelly, Brenda, and Hattie.
She was predeceased by her husbands, John Brown, Morton Greenwood, Sr., and Murray Demers; a son, Noah Greenwood; step-son, Lyndon Demers; sisters, Bethel Raymond, and Shirley Lavallee; and her brothers, Lyndon, Edwin, Egbert, and James Ryea.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses from UVM Medical Center, North Country Hospital, and the Northwestern Medical Center for their care and concern.
Friends & family are invited to Mae's life celebration to include visitation from 5-8:00 PM on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickenson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Richford Methodist Church, River Street, Richford, VT. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Richford.
For those who wish, contributions in Mae’s memory may be made to the Goss- Spears Life Celebration Home P.O Box 396, Enosburg, VT 05450, to help support the family with her funeral expenses.
