Kathleen Hartman Obituary

In loving memory of Kathleen Marie Hartman, Sept. 5, 1944 - Oct. 23, 2025. Kathleen Marie Hartman, 81, of Irwin, passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren on Oct. 23, 2025. She was known as Mom to her children, "Mammaw" to her grandchildren, and Kathy to her husband and their many friends and family. She was born to the late James and Marie Hartley on Sept. 5, 1944, and was married to her loving husband, Bruce, for over 61 years. Together they raised four children, Bruce, Chris, Matt (Alecia), and Jamye Peterson, and have 12 amazing grandchildren who will continue her legacy of love and family for years to come. Kathy was many things to many people through the years as a daughter, sister, wife, aunt, cousin, friend, business owner, hair stylist, home decorator, crafter, bowler, baker, and home chef. Kathy trained as a beautician in the 1960s and retired 10 years ago as a highly successful businesswoman who owned her own salon (The Cutting Place) in Level Green for over 30 years. Kathy and Bruce have lived in the same home for over 50 years, and the door was always open to the many kids and parents in the neighborhood. They were known for hosting family and friends for many neighborhood parties, open houses, game nights, and New Year's Eve celebrations throughout the years. She was always willing to help her neighbors out with whatever was needed. In the last several years, you could often find her sitting on the back porch, working in the yard, or directing Bruce on the long list of things to do. Many afternoons included a visit from her besties, Sheila and her dog, Snickers, where they would chat and share an afternoon cocktail or two. Kathy loved DIY projects at the house, and she gave their home many new looks, styles, and designs over the years. If she saw some new design she liked, she would be sure to test it out in one (or maybe several) rooms. In addition to home decorating, she was also known as an avid crafter and could accomplish almost anything with a little bit of time, a sewing machine, and a few pictures. Her granddaughters especially liked having exclusive outfits for their American Girl dolls "made by Mammaw." When they weren't at home, Kathy loved to travel to new places and share new adventures with her husband, her children, and their families. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy (Elsie) Hartley; and is survived by her sister, Mary Jo Seiffert. At her request, the family is hosting a celebration of Kathy's life from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, at Cenacolo Restaurant in Irwin (Banco Business Park, 2000 Commerce Loop, North Huntingdon, PA 15642). All friends are invited to stop in any time to tell some stories, share some food, and toast her life with her family.
