Kathleen Christine Magri (nee Simmons), of Belleair, died on Oct. 19, 2025.
Born in Carmel, N.Y. on Aug. 12, 1949, Kathy was an alumna of St. James Catholic School and Ladycliff Academy ('67). She honed her keen eye for style while studying fashion merchandising at Taylor Business Institute in New York City and worked in fashion management at department stores in New York and San Francisco.
Kathy married Joseph D. Magri in August 1975. In 1982, Joe became First Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, and they moved to the Tampa Bay area. A proud New Yorker initially hesitant about moving to the South, she declared that if she had to move to Florida, she would be near the beach. Living in Harbor Bluffs and Belleair for nearly 45 years, Kathy fully embraced the Florida lifestyle but never lost her "New York state of mind."
For more than 40 years, Kathy was a parishioner of St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and a sacristan. When her children were in school, she was a dedicated volunteer at St. Cecelia's Catholic School and Clearwater Central Catholic High School.
Kathy will be remembered for her devotion to her faith and her family, her sharp sense of humor and the way she embraced the friends of her children and grandchildren as part of her family. She used her considerable culinary talents as a way to show her love. Kathy found joy in simple pleasures, like being with her dogs, watching CBS soap operas, shopping at the Italian deli, being in her garden, and reading daily obituaries – like this one.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 50 years, Joseph D. Magri; her daughter Jeannie (Magri) Clary and her husband Scott; son Joseph R. Magri; granddaughters Kathleen and Annie Clary; nephew Christopher Simmons and his wife Kate; niece Michelle Cafarelli and her husband Eric; and great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene – a Naval survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor – and Lillian Simmons; brother Eugene Simmons; niece Angela Simmons; and uncle Eugene Jablonsky.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, at 10:30 a.m.
