Kathleen Thaler Thompson passed away unexpectedly December 3, 2025 at the age of 61. The daughter of Dr. Donald M. Thaler and Janice Foster Thaler, she was born in Gallipolis, Ohio and moved to her beloved New Orleans in 1996.
Feisty, big-hearted, smart, and crazy hot, Kathleen loved white lilies, a good argument, books of all kinds, the hills of Ohio, and dancing in the sunshine at JazzFest. She rescued animals, fed the homeless, and fought for women's rights and justice for all. She considered the Supreme Court to be her personal pen-pal and frequently whipped out spicy correspondence advising them of their erroneous decisions.
Kathleen graduated from Gallia Academy High School and obtained her Bachelor's degree from Ohio Wesleyan University. Early in her career she oversaw litigation in 25 states for Central Benefits Insurance Company and then owned and jointly operated a Trial Consulting Company with her husband Kevin.
She is survived by her daughter Kelsey Thompson, husband Kevin Thompson, mother Janice Thaler, brother David Thaler, sister Jennifer Thaler McCormick, nieces Madeleine and Ella McCormick, brother-in-law Nat McCormick, best friend Cheryl Czekaj, and her beloved dog Jack; as well as many dear friends, cousins and aunts. She is pre deceased by her father Dr. Donald M. Thaler and her dogs Lilly, Sam, Blue, Delilah, Jasmine, Sandy, Riley, Silver, Baron, Dukie, Heidi, and Fritz.
She will be buried laid to rest alongside her father in Gallipolis, Ohio at a later date and a celebration of life will be held in New Orleans. In the meantime, we know she is dancing in the sunshine to the Grateful Dead, catching up with her Dad, loving each one of our family dogs, and talking the ears off each stranger-but-soon-to-be-friend she meets. We will miss you, dear Kat.
