Kathlyn Dominique Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metropolitan Funeral Service - Granby Chapel on Sep. 30, 2025.
Kathlyn S. Dominique, affectionately known as "Bennie," peacefully departed this life on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at her home, surrounded by love, peace, and family. She was 79 years old.

Kathlyn was born on March 10, 1946, in Jamestown, South Carolina to the late Sylvester Upson and Osceola Lott. The youngest of eight children, she earned the nickname "Bennie" from her siblings, who lovingly referred to her as the baby girl of the family.

At the age of 16, Kathlyn relocated to New York City, where she continued her education through the NYC public school system. It was in Queens, NY, where she met the love of her life, Frank Dominique Jr. They were married on October 27, 1966. Together, they raised three children: Frank, Inez, and Virginia. Kathlyn was also a devoted mother to Nadine Upson, her eldest daughter from a previous relationship.

A natural caregiver and a woman with a heart for others, Kathlyn began her career at just 20 years old at New York State Creedmoor Psychiatric Center. She worked there faithfully until her retirement at the age of 50. Even in retirement, she continued her calling by caring for private clients after relocating to Virginia.

Those who knew Kathlyn knew her deep love for the Lord. She served as the Mother of the church and was a devoted prayer warrior. Her faith was unwavering, and her spirit exuded kindness and compassion. She found joy in spending time with her family, cooking, baking, and making cherished memories. Her sweet and gentle demeanor touched countless lives and will be dearly missed.

Kathlyn was preceded in death by her parents, her daughters Nadine and Virginia, and five of her siblings: Major, James, Johnny Clarence, Henry, and Anne.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved siblings, Floia and Carolina; her children, Frank (Shelley) and Inez; her bonus children, Donald and Donna; her grandchildren, Ciara, Andre, Frank, Cinnamon (Roger), Howard, Jr., and Tamra; great-grandchildren, Niyeh, Ciyeh, Aaron, Amaya, Frank, AJ, Dior, Essence, and Tru; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who were blessed to know and love her.

Kathlyn's legacy of faith, strength, and love will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
