Kathlyn Stenzel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 11, 2026.
It is with abounding love that we share the passing of Kathlyn Elizabeth Stenzel on February 7, 2026. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and teacher. Born on February 3, 1943, in West Orange, New Jersey, Kathlyn lived a joyful life that touched many hearts and minds.

Kathy was preceded in death by her devoted husband of over 50 years, Harry; her parents, Elizabeth and Roy Preisler; and her brother, Richard Preisler. Her memory will be cherished by her children, Harley (Emily), Kristin (Todd), Kori (Rob), and Hunter (Marissa), as well as her brother, Steve (Lucy). She was a proud Mimi/Jammie to Henry, Vincent, Morgan, Zane, Taylor, Cooper, and Sadie, and a loyal friend to many whom she considered family.

Kathy's journey through life was interwoven with a love for education and adventure. She earned a degree in education from Springfield College in Massachusetts and enjoyed "van life" in Scotland with dear friends before beginning her career as an elementary school teacher. After marrying, Kathy took a professional break to focus on raising her four children. She later returned to the classroom, sharing her passion for learning by teaching communication skills at Lorain County Community College. Her dedication to nurturing young minds left a lasting impact on many in the Sandusky, Ohio, community she loved.

Beyond her professional life, Kathy was known for her vibrant spirit and boundless enthusiasm. She was a lifetime member of the Harlequins Community Theatre and volunteered with organizations close to her heart, including Back to the Wild and Erie County Metro Parks. She always enjoyed nature-and a good walk and talk.

Kathy had a joy for life and people that was evident to all who knew her. She was an avid traveler, cooking enthusiast, reader, and tennis player, and a devoted fan of boxed white wine. She loved games, especially bridge and euchre, often hosting gatherings filled with laughter and good food. She loved to cook for those she loved. Kathy was not only a wonderful host but also the world's best listener, always ready with an open ear. Her clever writing and sharp wit brought countless laughs to her family and friends.

In her later years, Kathlyn faced the challenges of Alzheimer's disease with courage. Despite her struggles, her loving spirit remained unbroken.

We know that she is once again her best self and is causing some degree of mischief on the other side with the loved ones who passed before her. So put a deck of cards or a glass in your hand, or enjoy a good hike in your favorite metro park (bonus points if you talk to her out loud-she's still listening), and think of Kathy and a life well and fully lived.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her honor. Together, we can stomp out this devastating disease. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Yesterday

A real pleasure to have known Katherine and Harry. Met Harry at Y's Men's Club at old YMCA downtown and Kathrine during the Miss Ohio Pageant- both over 50 years ago. WHAT A NEAT COUPLE. My sympathy to all the Stencil's.
