Kathryn Frances (Peyton) Joyce was born January 8, 1938, to Walter and Frances (Johnston) Peyton in Buchanan County, Iowa. She graduated from Quasqueton School in 1956. Kathryn was united in marriage to Marvin Dale Joyce on August 26, 1956, at the Troy Mills Methodist Church. She was a homemaker while she raised her and Marvin’s three children. Later, she worked at Quamaco in Quasqueton and then for her remaining working years she proudly cooked the best broasted chicken at The Corner Tavern in Walker. Kathryn enjoyed playing cards, various ceramics classes, and always had a cup of coffee in her hand and wanted you to sit and visit a while. She was an active member of the Walker Methodist Church, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Garden Club, and Coffee Club in Walker. Above all, she enjoyed the special times with her many friends and family.
Kathryn is survived by her children, Julie (Chris) Cook, James (Bridget) Joyce, and Jeanie Bickford (Dave Yerkes); grandchildren, Tanner (Katie) Cook, Amanda Jo (Michael) Krogmann, Mason (Amber) Cook, April (Adam) Kress, and Augustus “Gus” Joyce; great-grandchildren, Michael, Leah and Christopher, Jerry and Marvin Cook, Scout and Drake Krogmann, and Maevry and Colter Kress; sister-in-law, Donna Miller; many nieces and nephews; and her dear friends, Dee, Marge, and Mona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Joyce; parents, Walter and Frances Peyton; siblings, Ellen (Bob) Clarin and Dean Peyton; brother-in-law, Clarence (Hazel) Joyce; son-in-law, Bill Bickford; and nieces, Norma Johnson, and Joyce McElree.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kristen Jensen (ARNP) and her wonderful staff as well as the nurses at Care Initiative Hospice for their compassionate care for Kathryn.
Memorials may be directed to the family for donation in Kathryn’s name.
