Graveside Services for Kathryn Smith, 91, a Hereford resident for over 70 years, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at West Park Cemetery with the Reverend Billy Joe Wall, pastor of Avenue Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow under the personal supervision of Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive guests on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.
Kathryn Taylor was born April 20, 1930, in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Norman and Annie (Tankersley) Taylor. She met and fell in love with Lloyd Neil Smith. They married on August 25, 1947. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Hereford and the Deaf Smith County area. Kathryn had worked for Little's Clothing Store, One Hour Martinizing, Parkside Chapel Funeral Directors, Flowers West, and Rix Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Smith was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was also a wonderful mother-in-law and was lovingly known as "Big Grandma." She was an excellent cook, seamstress, and homemaker. Kathryn could look at an article of clothing at a store and go home and make it herself. She was a member of the Young Homemakers Club.
The legacy she leaves are two daughters, Janice Brownlow and husband Johnny of Hereford and Pamela Brown and husband Dennis of Bootleg, Texas, grandchildren Russell Brownlow, Cynamin Brownlow, Sabra Smith, Jennifer Rudzinski Dupree, Brandon Brown, Brent Brown and Dakota Smith, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd Neil Smith, Sr., a son Lloyd Neil Smith, Jr. a daughter Kathy Holly and a grandson Gaylen Dupree.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Smith's name be made to the Hereford Senior Citizens Association, 401 Jack Griffin Drive, Hereford, Texas 79045 or Samaritan Hospice, 400 Ranger, Hereford, Texas, 79045.
