Kathryn Irene Smith ("Smitty")

Kathryn Irene Smith ("Smitty"), age 84, of Mays Landing, NJ, passed away at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus, on January 16, 2026. Born on June 18, 1941, at Atlantic City Hospital, she resided in Atlantic City, Ventnor City, and Mays Landing throughout her life. Kathryn graduated from Atlantic City High School with the Class of 1959 and dedicated much of her career as an Administrative Assistant for the County of Atlantic until her retirement in summer 2004. Kathryn was actively engaged in community and social activities, including membership in a knitting group at Grace Lutheran Church, participation in the Class of 1959 high school breakfast club, and devoted involvement in the Newport Avenue Beach Club in Ventnor City. She enjoyed attending Ventnor City beach concerts and other music events, notably at various parks and beaches, including Sir Rod at the Log Cabin in Margate City. Kathryn was deeply proud of her family and took great joy in their accomplishments. She fostered a love of music and often expressed appreciation for the therapeutic qualities of the beach, which she considered essential to her well-being. Known for her enthusiastic spirit, she brought energy to gatherings and valued the time spent with loved ones. She will be remembered for her independent nature and positive influence. Her presence was a source of brightness for all who knew her. Kathryn is survived by her children, Rick (Anna) Smith, Kari (Kevin) Scull, Kyle (Helene) Smith, and John (Sue) Peterson; grandchildren, John (Tracey), Cristina (Steve), Justin, Marc, Sean (Cindy), Ashley (Nick), Cory, Garrett, Peyton; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Brody, Lawson, Blazee, Tiger, Annabelle, and Emma; as well as her cousin, Jan (Jim), their children Jim, Jay, Jeff and spouses. She was predeceased by her father, Calvin Smith, mother Edythe (Art) Byers, and great grandson, Liam Scull.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made through Kyle Smith for a commemorative bench on the Ventnor City beach boardwalk at Newport Ave, honoring Kathryn's cherished "Happy Place."
