Kathy Laston Obituary
Kathy Louise Laston (née Campbell), 77, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Akron General Medical Center, following complications of peritonitis.
Born on March 5, 1948, in Akron, Ohio, Kathy was the daughter of the late George and Kathleen (Swayze) Campbell. She grew up in a loving and lively household alongside her siblings: the late Bruce Campbell, Priscilla (Michael) Dittmar, Joseph (Clara) Campbell, Diana Campbell, Glen (Evelyn) Campbell, and Glenna Barlow.
A graduate of North High School, Kathy continued her education at Akron City Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her license as a practical nurse. She dedicated more than 30 years of service to Akron General Medical Center, where her compassionate care touched countless lives.
On October 22, 1969, Kathy married the love of her life, Richard W. Laston, Sr., at Greater Bethel Baptist Church. Together, they shared a deep bond until his passing in 2008. Kathy was a devoted mother to Richard W. (Michelle) Laston, Jr. and Audra K. Fry (Laston), and stepmother to Ronda Laston and Lisa Solomon. She was also the proud grandmother and great-grandmother of numerous grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
Kathy’s interests reflected her creativity and love of community. She enjoyed bowling, attending concerts, crocheting, and collecting Campbell Soup Kids memorabilia. She also gave her time helping her mother with the Cathedral’s bookstore. Above all, Kathy will be remembered for her warmth, humor, and the kindness she extended to friends, family, and all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, husband, and brother Bruce, Kathy was preceded in death by her father in 2006 and her mother in 2017.
A funeral service will be held on FRIDAY, September 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at The Billow Funeral Homes & Crematory – Falls Memorial Chapel in Cuyahoga Falls, officiated by Reverend Steve Millar. Interment will follow at Mount Peace Cemetery.
