MORTON – MORTON – Kathleen "Kathy" Anne Morgan, 80, of Morton, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 14, 2025.
She was born on June 16, 1945, in
Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Robert Sr. and Marjorie Jean (Brannigan) Rothacker, a sister to Robert (Jeanie) Rothacker, Jr. of Gretna, Louisiana.
Kathy's family was her greatest joy. She loved them fiercely and created traditions that her children and grandchildren will carry forward. She made holidays warm and ordinary days special. Kathy was a devoted mother to Marcy (Craig) Wiegardt of Morton, Michele (Ross) MacMillan of Edwards, Illinois and Rick (Pamela) Morgan of Savannah, Georgia; proud grandmother to six grandchildren, Morgan Wiegardt, Kate Wiegardt, Luke Wiegardt, River MacMillan, Anthony MacMillan and Bridget MacMillan and beloved aunt and great-aunt.
Kathy was a friend to all; she didn't know a stranger. Her kind heart, loving personality and infectious spirit will be remembered by all who knew her. Kathy loved helping and interacting with people. Her quiet strength brought calm to those around her, often with a listening ear, comforting words, or just her beautiful smile when someone needed it most.
In her younger years Kathy served as a homemaker, in-home caregiver, home health aide, adult daycare coordinator, and a barista – service to others was not something she spoke about; it was simply how she lived every day of her life. When she wasn't working, she dedicated her time to volunteering and teaching at her children's school, Nativity of our Savior in Portage Indiana. It didn't matter the task, from learning how to coach kickball so the school could have a team, to creating an 8th grade home economics program so students would learn how to sew, cook and enjoy art, she raised her hand, she showed up and she made a difference.
Kathy's love created a sense of home wherever she was for anyone who was blessed to know her. She loved to cook and entertain and is known for many dishes, including her famous pink 24-hour salad. Kathy's service continued in her later years through her faith and membership at Blessed Sacrament in Morton Illinois and even in her last few years at The Arc at Chillicothe, where she served as president of the nursing home resident advisory group.
Though she is deeply missed, her spirit lives in every act of compassion, every moment of grace and every heart she helped to heal. Her light remains, guiding those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2025, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, with Fr. Achilleus Tegamaisho officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Monday, prior to the service at the church.
Kathy lived a life of service and devotion. She was a loved mother, friend and confidant. Her kindness and love showed in every interaction of her life and even in her final days, she had a smile and kind words for those taking care of her. These small acts WERE Kathy – never knowing what that kindness might have meant to someone but always being a source of love because that's who she was.
To serve her memory, we want to pay her kindness forward and give, in her name, to two important causes: first, to local libraries, because of her passion for reading; next, to improve the lives of the residents, who became her extended family, at the Arc at Chillicothe.
