Columbiana - Kathy Butera Wiery earned her eternal wings in Zephyrhills, FL where she lived for the past 16 months . Kathy passed away Nov 22, 2025 at the age of 67. She was born August 23, 1958 in Salem, the daughter of the late Ledia and John Butera.
Always happy, Kathy graduated from Crestview High School in 1976 where she was a member of the basketball team. From there she began a career in banking. Kathy started with the DeBartolo Corp. before logging over 40 years with many area banks. A favorite bank of hers was her hometown New Waterford Bank where she made many friends and was always ready to guide her numerous customers right up until the bank closed. She retired from Farmers Bank in Poland and realized her longtime dream of moving to Florida. Despite living there for only a little over year, she made the most of each day and made several new friends. Moving to Florida gave her the chance to travel to Disney World many times as she and her husband were season ticket holders.
In 1997 she met Bob Wiery, whom she married on her 40th birthday, August 23, 1998. She And Bob enjoyed 27 years of marriage. Kathy enjoyed many activities such as bowling bingo and golf, firing a hole in one on number nine at Whispering Pines in Columbiana. She had been a member of Saint Jude Parish where she had served on the finance committee and was a loyal member of the Womens Guild.
Besides her husband, Kathy leaves her brother, John who referred to her as “my hero and backbone.” Upon being inducted into the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame in May, John dedicated the honor to Kathy to go with the plaque he gave her when he was Inducted into the Crestview High School Distinguished Alumni Hall Of Fame. Kathy proudly enjoyed following John’s career in television sports and both were thrilled when Kathy worked an ESPN tournament game with him. She also looked forward to working the annual County Basketball Classic.
Kathy also leaves scores of friends including Val Yanssens and Michelle Hendricks who were with her in her final days. Also special to Kathy was her best friend, Shelly Prater and cousin, Diana Siclare. Shelly was extremely helpful to her in her final days and did much to help ease the burdens of her and her family. She also leaves behind her beloved dog Maggie.
