Saugus- Mrs. Kathy S. (Johnston) Zapolski, age 78, died on Thursday, February 22nd at Salem Hospital. She was the wife of Charles E. Zapolski with whom she shared 58+ years of marriage.
A lifelong Saugus resident, Kathy was the daughter of Jean (Smith) King and the late Walter Johnston, both of Saugus. Kathy worked many jobs in Saugus while raising her family. She then went back to school and attained a degree from Suffolk University, going on to work for several years as an accountant at various firms in the North Shore area. Kathy enjoyed vacationing in Florida and on Cape Cod, where she would relax at the beach or by a pool. She loved spending time with family and friends on holidays and at other gatherings. She was also a fan of dining out and had a taste for engaging in social media. Kathy was committed to her mother until the very end, always making sure Jean had everything she needed. Kathy cared deeply about the well-being of everyone she loved!
Besides her husband and mother, Kathy is survived by her three sons, Michael Zapolski and his partner Marcy Siegal of Wakefield, Jon Zapolski and his wife Kimberly of Franklin and Kevin Zapolski and his wife Insuk of Beverly. She is also survived by her five grandchildren; Susan and her husband Stephen, Ryan and his fiancée Sara, Sean, Samuel, Elijah, and three great grandchildren; Delilah, Dyllan, and Dakota.
Services will be private at the request of the family.
