I have always admired Katie John for her strong leadership and fight for our subsistences rights. My condolences to the family.

I didn't know her well but I really liked her. I still remember when she come to my home in Maple Valley and spoke with the fruit trees. I now Steve Sr. and her are visiting right now. God Bless you all.

My humble respects are for this amazing, noble, strong, brave and beautiful woman who lived nearly a century on this Earth, and made that time count for her family, her people, and untold future generations. She is a heroine and inspiration. I wish I had had the honor of knowing her. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. May the Great Spirit in whom she believes keep her close and embrace her eternally.

Grandma Katie was a very wonderful person, she always fill the room with her presence. She always had a sense of humor and allot of love in her heart for others. She is no longer in pain, she has joined the Lord. No more pain, no more suffering, free from all that just like an Eagle soaring, free at last in the hands of the Lord. Going to be very sad not seeing her. God bless you all and love you all. I prayed for you all. Carry on what she taught you and always remember what she wanted you to do or what would she say. She raised a wonderful family who all have allot of love in their hearts. God bless you all. Love you all. My Condolences.

Tsin'aen Lord Heavenly Father for blessing us with the love and compassion she had for our people and our land. I met Katie when I was young I think I was in the 6th grade. She showed me pride in my culture and made me proud to be the half Athabaskan that I am today. She was a light that shined for Alaskan people so that they could keep their culture Alive in the encroachment of laws forced upon the subsistence way of life. How dare any one to take on the federal government In a court of law? Who does this lady think she is? Katie not only spoke for the Ahtna people but all of Alaska,when Uncle Sam was put in his place for trying to take away the rights that we naturally had passed down from 1 generation to the next. We will miss you Katie John.

Have know Katie John from years and years....Served her lunch at the Senior Center in TOK in the 80's and knew her until I left Tok in 86. Have wonderful and lovely memories of this beautiful and spirit filled woman. May you rest in Peace my dear friend and lots of prays and love to your family that will MISS you very much. Condolences and blessings to family and friends. Katie helped all of us Indigenous peopple to remember that we cannot keep anything we don't actively practice (i.e., whether it subsistence, arts and crafts, songs and dances, and all the traditional knowledge required for it all inbetween).

News has reached,'Australia', I am of the Navajo/Quechan tribes (ex-pat). Don't be sad, our mother has set an example for us to follow. We must honour and respect the memory of a true warrior.

Dear Family,

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to you. I do understand how hard it can be when a loved one has been taken by death at anytime. The pain, the grief, and the feelings of helplessness can seem unbearable. At such times, we need to go to God's Word for comfort.

More power to her memory. The state cannot divorce a people from the natural rights derived from their ancestral home. I remember the case now. Bless her for her fight. Cannot think of but a few who jumped into it at her age. " Respect for elders " has always had sound meaning. She is a fine reminder.
