Katie Mae Adline McGilberry

Katie Mae Adline McGilberry transitioned peacefully from this life on December 17,2025 at Wayne Rehabilitation Center in Bronx,NY.

She was born on August 23rd, 1936, in Harnett County, North Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of the late John Wesley McGilberry and Josie Bell Fort. Her formative years were spent in Olivia, NC in the nurturing embrace of her paternal grandparents. They introduced her to her spiritual home the Murchison Family Chapel, and instilled in her the deep-rooted faith and family values she would carry throughout her life. She journeyed to New York City as a young woman, residing initially in Harlem before establishing her cherished home at 771 Grote Street in the Bronx.

Katie was the quintessential family matriarch, her love and strength was the rock for her expansive family and she fostered an unbreakable sense of belonging. For over four decades, she tended her apartment on Grote Street as both home and landing place. Almost all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren passed through at some point in their lives and everyone was welcome. Katie's warmth, integrity, and genuine nature earned her the love and respect of everyone who had the privilege of meeting her.

Her legacy of love and devotion will forever be cherished by her surviving children, Melantha and Victor, and is carried on through her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Katie also leaves behind her sister Mary Ann Brewer and numerous members of her extended family in both NY and NC. She is reunited in glory with her beloved son, Aubrey, who preceded her in transition. She will be missed beyond measure by all who knew her. As we celebrate her homegoing, we take comfort in the indelible mark she leaves on her family and community, a testament to a life well-lived and a spirit that will continue to shine.
