Obituary published on Legacy.com by Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory - West Odessa on Nov. 4, 2025.
In the tapestry of life, a vibrant thread has ceased its weave; Katie Dawn Smith, known affectionately as Katie, hath taken her leave. Born under the sign of Libra in the year of our Lord 1988, in the quaint town of Andrews, she embarked upon life's intricate dance. Alas, on the final eve of October in 2025, in the city of
Odessa, Texas, she did her mortal coil relinquish, her soul ascending in the gentle embrace of nature's own repose.
Katie, a woman of Christian faith, walked this earth with a spirit both interesting and loving, her courage as a bright lantern guiding her through the tempests of existence. She was a cherished daughter to Sandra K. and Jeffery Yount, and a sister whose love knew no bounds to Chris, alongside his wife Patty, and to Haley with her husband Jimmy Tilghman, who together with their children Avery and Ivy, wove a family tapestry rich and warm.
Her heart's echo will resonate through her beloved husband, Connor Smith, and their dear children Piper, Jensen, and Brexlei, who shall carry the torch of her love ever forward. Katie's memory will also be tenderly held by her brother Jose and his wife Melody Leal, sister-in-law Ashley and her husband Mike Arthur, her niece Amber with her husband Jose Ortiz and their children Patrick and Jose, and her nephew Erik with his wife Jancie Malone and their children Jayden, Scarlett, and Cellest. Though the heavens have called her home, Katie's earthly journey was one of joyous creation and nurturing love. She walked the hallowed halls of Permian High School, graduating in the year 2007, and from thence she pursued the artful study of cosmetology, refining her craft from 2008 until 2011. Her professional journey saw her grace the establishments of Domino's, ECISD as a vigilant crossing guard, and Walmart, where she tended to the Hallmark Cards with care. In the quiet moments, Katie found solace in the melodies that filled the air, the joy of adorning her nails in myriad colors, and the satisfaction of shearing the locks of her kin. Her eyes would light up at the silver screen's tales, and laughter would spill forth as she watched the mirthful antics of Tic Tock videos. A culinary adventurer, she reveled in the discovery of new recipes, each a testament to her zest for life's varied flavors. In the words of the immortal bard, John Donne, "No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent." Katie, too, was a piece of our continent, a part of our main, and her departure diminishes us, for we are involved in mankind. Though the sorrow of parting weighs heavy upon our hearts, we take solace in knowing that Katie's legacy is one of love and joy, an eternal flame in the hearts of those who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her children Emerson, Lennox, and Lynlee, her nephew AJ Yount, and her grandparents AD and Geneva Haley, and Jearl and Delois Yount.
Let it be known that Katie Dawn Smith lived, loved, and left a mark upon this world that shall not be forgotten. For in the words of Percy Bysshe Shelley, "Death is here and death is there, Death is busy everywhere, all around, within, beneath, Above is death-and we are death." Yet, in death, Katie's spirit finds its immortality, her story interwoven with the fabric of eternity, a tale of love and life that shall be told for generations to come.
