Katie R. West

Katie R. West, 35, of Pittsburgh, died Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 18, 1988, a daughter of Kenneth and Karen Cutshall West of Houston. Katie was a 2006 graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School and graduated in 2010 from Westminster College, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and minors in English, Theater and Music. At Westminster, she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She received her Master's Degree in Public History from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Katie was employed by Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum as a rental consultant and coordinator. She had previously worked as an Historic Interpreter at Fort Fisher Historic Site in Wilmington, N.C. and was the former curator for the Washington County Historical Society from 2012 to 2018. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist church in McMurray. Katie enjoyed playing bocce ball and was in the LGBTQ Allies and Friends kickball and dodgeball leagues. In addition to her parents, she leaves behind her cat, Sweet Dee, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner / supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024, in Trinity United Methodist Church, 530 Center Church Road, McMurray, PA 15317. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Hillman Cancer Center, 5150 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232, or the Washington County Historical Society, 49 E.
