Kay Cole Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A. G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc. on Oct. 30, 2025.
Kay Marlene Bund Cole, a long time resident of Johnstown, New York, but of late a resident of North Carolina, gracefully concluded her cherished life's journey on October 27, 2025, at the age of 92.
Born on October 4, 1933, in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late George O. Bund and Loretta (Johnston) Bund. She was raised by her mother and grandparents in Westchester County, NY. She attended Ossining High School and then went on to Hartwick College, where she met her husband, Robert I. Cole. Kay and Bob were married for 61 years before his death in 2015.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Kay's loving embrace, sassy sense of humor and radiant smile will be dearly missed by her children, Lynn Bruce (Kenneth) and Mark Cole (Thomas Hazzard); grandchildren, Matthew Cole (Erin), Jennifer DeCuypter (Peter), Laura Cole (Tim Shaut), Sawyer Bruce, Hannah Bramblett (Jonathan); and great-grandchildren, Hayden Cole, Max Cole, Nolan DeCuypter, and Caleb DeCuypter.
Kay's warm spirit touched many lives in Johnstown, NY, where she resided and contributed richly to her community. Endowed with a dedicated spirit towards education, Kay imparted knowledge and inspiration to countless students at Johnstown High School. Her extensive influence expanded beyond the classroom and she became the first woman to be elected to the Johnstown City Council, where she served her community faithfully for 15 years.
Kay's interests and involvements painted the picture of a woman vibrant with creativity and a drive for service. She resonated with music, founding "The Friends," a folk-singing group that stirred the hearts of many at local events and nursing homes. Kay's commitment to betterment found another outlet in her contributions to St. John's Episcopal Church, where she shone in dinner theater productions.
Never one to be idle, Kay brought technology closer to her peers, teaching computer literacy to senior citizens. However, at the heart of her multifaceted life, was her undying love and devotion to her family. Kay treasured every moment with her relatives, placing them above all else-a matriarch whose passion and loving kindness were the cornerstones of her very existence.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, NY.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown.
