Kay Ann Hornkohl of Tullahoma, Tennessee passed from this life on Friday, November 7, 2025, at NHC in Murfreesboro, Tennessee at the age of 80 years.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, she is the daughter of the late Harry and Kittielee Stock Hornkohl. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Smith in 2000, brother, Todd Hornkohl and sister, Jacqueline Reuben.
Per her request, she will be cremated, and no services are being planned at this time.
Although she was born in Detroit, Kay grew up in Belleville, Michigan. She played the Cello and the Organ and later began teaching music lessons. She loved her family and her pets and was a phenomenal storyteller. Her Christian faith was very important to her. She enjoyed hunting and one of her greatest enjoyments was scuba diving shipwrecks in the Great Lakes which started at the age of 16. She dearly loved her best friend, Joanne Wiles who lives in Plymouth, Michigan. They became friends as toddlers and the mileage between them never interfered with their friendship. They spoke on the phone daily until recent weeks when Kay was no longer able.
Her survivors include her children, Kerry (Merriweather) Lovelace of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, Kellie (Joseph) Harmon of Tullahoma, Tennessee, grandchildren, Kristian, Hunter, Karikay, Caleb, Shad and Katherine. She is also survived by her best friend, Joanne Wiles of Plymouth, Michigan
