Kay Colleen (Lechliter) Hay, born on April 8, 1941, in York, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at her home in Greeley, Colorado, on November 4, 2025. She was surrounded by her loved ones under the compassionate care of Hospice, a fitting environment for a woman who dedicated much of her life to caring for others.

Kay lived a life characterized by a profound commitment to her career as a certified nurse professional. Her vocation guided her through years of service in hospitals, nursing homes, and with Hospice, where she found fulfillment in providing comfort and support to those in need. Her dedication was not just a job; it was a calling, a testament to her nurturing spirit.

Throughout her life, Kay was fiercely independent and outspoken, attributes that shaped her progressive views on current affairs. She was a passionate advocate for change and never shied away from expressing her opinions. Her vibrant personality and zest for life made her a beloved figure not only within her family but also in her community.

Kay leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to her family. She was a proud mother to her daughters Shelley Roberts, Jill Paxton, Julie Kirby, and her son, Dan Loshbaugh. She radiated joy and pride in the accomplishments and life goals of her 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Her unwavering support and interest in their lives created cherished memories that will forever be held close in their hearts.

In addition to her family, Kay found immense joy in her hobbies and interests. She loved flowers and had a passion for gardening, continuously cultivating beauty in her surroundings. Birds captivated her, and she delighted in collecting birdhouses, filling her home with warmth and charm. Her inviting abode was always beautifully decorated for each season and holiday, reflecting the love she poured into creating a nurturing environment for those who entered.

Kay's community involvement after retirement was equally admirable. She devoted her time as a worker and volunteer for Banner Hospice in Greeley, Colorado, mirroring the compassionate spirit that defined her career.  In 2018, she received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award by the corporation for National and Community Service. Additionally, she volunteered as an election judge in Weld County, further demonstrating her commitment to civic engagement.

She is preceded in death by her father, Vern Lechliter; her mother, Athla Howard; her sister, Vicki Brown; her brother, Read Lechliter; and her grandson, Patrick Fleck. Though they are no longer with us, their memories will remain etched in the hearts of those who loved her.

As we remember Kay Colleen Hay, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life marked by service, love, and an enduring spirit. She touched the lives of many, and her legacy will continue through the generations she so dearly loved.
