Grieco Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.Kay Evelyn Leto, age 88, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Born in Wilmington, DE, on December 15, 1936, she was a lifelong resident of the Kennett Square area and a daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn Stoops.
She was the beloved wife of Robert R. Leto, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage.
A 1954 graduate of Kennett High School, Kay earned her degree from Goldey Beacom College. She worked at DuPont for nine years before becoming a full-time homemaker. Later, she worked as a part-time bookkeeper at Leto Mushrooms.
Kay was deeply committed to her faith and community. She was a longtime member of Avondale, Kennett Square, and West Chester Presbyterian Churches, where she was highly active, serving as Treasurer, Circle Leader, and President of the Women's Association, and as Chairman of the Strawberry Festival. She was also a dedicated volunteer for the American Cancer Society for over 10 years, serving as Area Chairman for the Residential Campaign. When her sons were young, she served as a Scouting Den Mother and homeroom mother.
Her greatest passion was gardening. A member of the Four Seasons Garden Club since 1964, her involvement was extensive: she served as Club President multiple times and held numerous positions at the state level (Garden Club Federation of PA), including District Director, Convention Chairman, and President. She was a nationally accredited floral and horticultural judge, judging many shows at the Philadelphia Flower Show and Longwood Gardens. She also created the first website for the GCFP in the 1990s.
In addition to her husband Bob, Kay is survived by her two sons: Raymond Leto (Emily) and their daughter, Celia; and Robert Leto (Tamatha) and their sons, Gabriel (Rachel) and Parker; her sisters-in-law, Elaine Stoops and Wanda Stoops; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two older brothers, John and Edward Stoops.
