Kay Virginia Mebane Dietz, age 80, born May 14, 1945, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died on November 4, 2025, in Austell, Georgia. Kay graduated from Pine Bluff High school where she was a member of the band playing the herald horn and timpani. She was a delegate to the 1963 Arkansas Girls' State program in Little Rock and graduated from Hendrix College, Conway, Arkansas with a major in elementary education. She met her husband, Richard (Dick) Dietz, during their freshman year while auditioning for the Hendrix College Choir, both being accepted into the group. She was listed in the 1967 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Kay attended graduate school at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, majoring in mathematics, where she was also a teaching assistant. After college, she taught school in Cave City, Paragould, and Little Rock, Arkansas. In Little Rock, she taught advanced geometry at Little Rock Central High School and Hall High School. After moving to Atlanta with her husband, Kay enjoyed training IT programs as an independent contractor and traveled throughout the United States and several international locations, including India.
Kay has been an active member in Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock and in Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. At both churches, she was actively involved in the Chancel choirs, the church's Altar Guilds, and in the church bell choirs. She enjoyed reading and was a longtime member of the Peachtree Road Choir book Club, enjoyed traveling and traveled internationally with the Peachtree Road UMC Chancel Choir. She was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed directing the Children's Choir while a member of Pulaski Heights UMC. She also taught math to young mothers-to-be and tutored many junior and high school students.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Allen and Grace Mebane from Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Richard (Dick) Dietz, their daughter, Melissa Dietz White (Dan) from Haslet, Texas, and their son, Gregory Dietz (Rebecca) from New Orleans, Louisiana. Also surviving are her five amazing grandchildren, Jacob White (Lindsey), Sarah Grace White, Emma Kate White, Mary Dietz, Allen Dietz, her great-granddaughter, Louella White, and her brother, Thomas Mebane of Conway, Arkansas. Kay is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many great-great-nieces and nephews living in Arkansas, Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas.
A memorial service will be held at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11am. A link for the service is provided here: Livestream. Interment will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, at a date to be determined.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Davis-Struempf Funeral Home, Austell, GA. The family asks that no flowers be received. Donations can be made to the Georgia Chapter of Parkinson's Disease and to the Caring Hands Program at Presbyterian Village, Cobb Retirement Center in Austell, GA., home to Dick and Kay.
