Kayla Faul Obituary

Kayla Ann Faul

Kayla Ann Faul was 27 years old at her time of death due to an accident near Rapid City, S.D.

Kayla was born on October 27, 1997, at St John's Hospital in Fargo, N.D., to Chuck and Tammy Faul. She joined her three other siblings, Rebecca, Kristina, and Levi Faul. When Kayla was 2 ½ the family moved to Antioch, Ill., where they lived for 3 years. They then moved to Nevada, where they lived for 19 years. Kayla attended Spring Creek elementary, middle and high school before she went to Utah for EMT and phlebotomy training.

Kayla danced for a few years, played soccer for many more years and got into racing her dirt bike in the desert with her dad. On one of her first races, she got to the top of the hill that was totally plugged up with other bikes that couldn't make it, and she was so excited and was chatting with her dad and then remembered she was still in the race. Kayla then became a Wildland Firefighter in Montana, Oregon and later in McCall, Idaho. She had many opportunities to try different positions in the fire service, but being flown beneath a helicopter during short haul operations has been her favorite. A highlight of her career, only a week before her passing, was when she and her team were able to complete a search and rescue mission to locate and rescue a lost hunter.

Kayla is survived by her dad, Chuck; mom, Tammy; sister, Rebecca (Reese Irwin) Faul; sister, Kristina (Max) Benson; brother, Levi (Macy) Faul; nephew, Ezekiel (Levi and Macy); niece, Penny (Max and Kristina); grandparents Richard and Kathy Legvold; grandparents, Marvin and Kimberly Faul; uncle, Brent with Molly Faul and kids; uncle, Jesse with Hope Faul and kids; uncle, Matthew with Madeline Faul and kids; uncle, Trevor Faul; uncle, Ryan with Jess Legvold and kids. And of course, the many friends and coworkers she has met along the way.

Kayla was preceded in death by her grandma, Rita Faul.

Kayla could be dressy, but she was mostly casual. She loves jeans and cowboy boots and the color purple. So come in anything that is comfortable and celebrate Kayla.

We gave her the nickname "Grape Ape", which she came up with, due to her purple flight helmet. She absolutely loved dangling on a line 250 feet below a helicopter whether for fire or Search and Rescue. She will be missed but in her short time here on this planet, she made a difference.
