Keith Scherer Obituary

Keith L. Scherer, 77, of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Keith was born on May 18, 1948, to the late Robert and LaVon (Bauermeister) Scherer. On August 15, 1982, he was united in marriage to Suzi Braun in Michigan.

Keith was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. He was a dedicated employee for more than 40 years, working for three different companies throughout his career. He began with General Electric, where he worked for 25 years, before transitioning to Lockheed- Martin Aerospace and later BAE Systems, where he retired.

Affectionately known as “Poo Bear,” Keith was a welcoming presence who formed many lasting friendships. He enjoyed a lifetime of outdoor activities including snow skiing, waterskiing, and deer hunting. In his later years, he found great joy spending quiet, relaxing time at his “cottage” beside his pond. Crooked Lake provided a lifetime of memories for him. This included time spent deer hunting in addition to summer activities.

Keith had a deep love for sports. He enjoyed fastpitch softball, watching the Kentucky Derby, IU Basketball, the Cincinnati Reds, and attending the Indy 500 — especially time spent in the infield. He faithfully supported his children in baseball, softball, and basketball as they grew up, and that support continued proudly as his grandchildren became involved in their own activities. Music was always playing in the Scherer home. Keith especially enjoyed attending concerts, including performances by Eagles, Bob Seger, and The Marshall Tucker Band.

Survivors include wife, Suzi Scherer of Monroeville, Indiana; daughter, Patti Scherer of Bluffton, Indiana; son, Zach (Lindsey) Scherer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Jennifer (Dustin) Mitchel of Decatur, Indiana; three brothers, Bruce (Brenda) Scherer of Hoagland, Indiana; Kevin (Marci Koons) Scherer and Barry L. (Denise) Scherer both of Monroeville, Indiana; six grandchildren, Londyn Mitchel, Remington Mitchel, Oaklynn Mitchel, Ryder Massoth, Sienna Scherer, and Weston Scherer.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Robyn Scherer; and his sister-in-law, Cindy Scherer.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Pastor Leonard Tanksley officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Preferred memorials are to Grandpa Keith’s Legacy Fund - checks payable to Fidelity Charitable.
