Keith Anthony Stanford was born on March 12, 1953, with the help of a midwife (the late Mildred Pierce). He was born at home, in a greenhouse (down in the factory) in Cordova, Maryland. Keith departed this life on December 4, 2023, at Christiana Care Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. He was 70 years old. He was the son of the late Garfield William Green, Sr., and the late Mary Viola Stanford, the sixth child out of seven children.
Keith attended grade school at Upper County Elementary in Cordova, Maryland. At the age of 12, he was transferred from Cordova/ Eastern schools to Warner Elementary in Wilmington, Delaware. Keith was a class of 1973 graduate of DuPont High School, Wilmington, Delaware. After graduation, he served in the United States Army for a short time and was honorably discharged in 1979.
After leaving the military, Keith worked various jobs. His two favorites were "Janssen's Super Market" where he was employed for 24 years, and "The Salvation Army" where he was employed for 31 years. He was extremely dedicated to both jobs. Having no children of his own, he enjoyed working with kids from ages 4 and up, doing different types of activities with them. He also enjoyed spending quality time with family, and friends, especially his siblings. He would talk on the phone with them at least three times per week. Anyone who knew him knew that Keith was a huge, lover of basketball. He spent years as a basketball coach to the youth. He was well known as "Coach Stan" by many. They would also know that his favorite foods were butterbeans, sweet potatoes, chicken, and meatloaf.
Keith was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Ann Stanford, and two brothers, Garfield William Green, Jr., and Carlet G. Stanford.
Left to cherish his memory are two sisters, Barbara Deshields (Fred), and Vanessa Bailey (both of Easton, MD), two brothers, George Stanford (of Cordova, MD), and Curtis Stanford (of Gainesville, FL); special, loving family and friends, Grace Holden, Stephanie "Bootie Butt" Thomas, Keith Howell, Mike Bailey; The Salvation Army & Aaron's Sales, and Leasing families; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Keith will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Lovingly Submitted,
The Family
