This is really sad news being a former Detroiter now living in Florida, I grew up listening to Ken Calvert on the WRIF.

I've had many interactions with him including a phone call many years ago to 101 WRIF - FM Detroit It was the start of some airplay for the band that I was in. I think he suspected that I was a band guy but he had no ego just a genuinely nice guy, and said he'd get it right on, and he did.

We were playing a big show downtown Detroit, in the late 80s, and he was doing an on-location radio broadcast. We had a great conversation, and he invited us out on his boat, which I regret we never did. He had a bit of advice too, he said don't ignore radio, stay in touch and hang out.

Loved listening to him here in Detroit, and for the Pistons, he will be so missed, RIP Ken.

I started working at WRIF as an intern in 1984 for JJ & the Morning Crew. I was quickly doing promotions all over town with all the on-air talent & Ken Calvert was one of my favorites. When JJ & George left for WLLZ I worked with KC & Joe Nipote & they put me on the air a couple of times as "Cybill Shepherd". I left WRIF at some point in 1987 & started working at The Palace of Auburn Hills where I would often run into Ken & Ann. I will always remember those days fondly. Will miss you so very much KC. Sending much love to Ann & your family from here in Nashville. Rest easy.

My memories of Ken span three decades -- from my first days at Creem magazine to our studio gigs with him doing voiceovers for Chevy 30 years later, he never failed to brighten my world whenever you entered it. A true gem. May he rest in peace.

I met Ken through some mutual friends in `71/`72. An outgoing and very kind person. I´m privileged to have known Ken for that short period of time.

I was a part-time on air guy @ WCSX for a number of years. My first air shift was sitting in for K.C I was blown away to even be sitting in his chair. The guy was the main reason I got into the radio biz and I told him so on several occasions. He was funny, humble and the best radio talent I´ve ever heard. Thanks Ken for teaching me more than you ever knew you did.

A teen in Detroit listening to K.C on air. He inspired me to pursue a radio career in 1988. I´m currently still at it.

He always answers my emails and questions- he was a very smart man - I was Elmore Leonard barber for over 20 years- he was my favorite DJ growing up. Even if I´m only 65 I would always listen to Ken. He will be missed

Spending time at WRIF with Ken and Joe Nipote. Also parting with Ken and Annie all over town. Ken and Joe featured my son, Steven on the radio when he was 3 years old on Christmas Day. Joe trained him to say, BABY!

What can say about KC/Chuck Roast/ The Casual One that hasn´t been said? When I was 16 I would listen to Chuck Roast every Sunday morning while working at Long John Silvers in Troy. I followed Ken through most of his career in Detroit radio and always enjoyed his style. I had the pleasure of spending time with Ken and Ann at the Woodward Jukebox many years ago and can´t say enough great things about them. He is a true gem and will be missed dearly.
