Kenneth Cathey Obituary
Kenneth "Ken" Ray Cathey, 89, of 88 Old Starnes Cove rd, died Tuesday, November 11th, 2025, at the VA Hospice Center in Asheville.
Born in Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Nellie Shope Cathey Baldwin and the late John Dow Cathey of Candler .
Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Teresa Reeves Cathey of the home; son, Kevin Ray Cathey; and five grandchildren: Brandon Cathey, Ryan Cathey, Nicola Shelton, Jeremiah Cathey, and Marygrace Cathey.
Mr. Cathey served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years and later worked for UPS. He was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church and then Edgewood Baptist Church. Gospel music was in his blood since a very young age. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him. His strength, kindness, and laughter will remain in our hearts forever.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 13, 2025, in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastors Keith Watkins and Mike Cathey officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler.
The family will receive friends and Thursday from 1:00 until 1:45 PM at the funeral home.
Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center is honored to serve the Cathey family.
