Kenneth E. Copass, 81, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026 at his home in Cozad, with his family caring for him. He was born on December 12, 1944 in Cozad, Nebraska to Elmo and Pauline (Hall) Copass.
Kenneth worked at Monroe Auto in Cozad, where he dedicated over 20 years of service. After that, he had several jobs before moving to North Platte, Nebraska, to work at Stockman Inn and continued there until his retirement.
Kenneth was known for his caring nature and his ability to bring joy to others. He had a special bond with his family, often picking on his siblings, children, and grandchildren in good-natured fun. His love for animals was evident, especially in his affection for his daughters' dogs.
A lifelong member of the Nazarene Church, Kenneth was baptized there and remained devoted to his faith throughout his life. His interests were varied; he loved playing the guitar and writing music, which was heavily inspired by his love for Elvis. He had a passion for racing, having raced stock cars himself. Additionally, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and Nebraska football, frequently sharing stories and engaging in conversations about these passions.
In 1967, Kenneth married Charlotte Mladek, though this union would end 20 years later and two children would come from it. He was a man who cherished his family deeply and held steadfast to the values of love and care throughout his life. Kenneth's proudest accomplishment was his role as a caretaker for his mother for many years, which highlighted his compassionate spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kenney; sisters, Dianna (Carl) Stoneking and Debra Shipman; and nephew, John “Opi” Shipman.
Survivors include his daughter, Crystal (Justin) Pflaster of Lexington; grandchildren, Christopher (Adam) Sorge Pehringer of Scottsbluff; Samantha (Shane Fife) Sorge of Kearney; step grandchildren, Tyler and Kinsey Pflaster; great grandchildren, Erika and Emilynn Sorge of Scottsbluff; sister, Jolene (David) Gitter of SC; brother, Larry Copass of Gothenburg; brother in law, Gary Shipman of AL; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cozad Nazarene Church. Burial at Walnut Grove Cemetery will follow. Visitation with family present will be Monday, January 12, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.
