Kenneth Ray Hartley, 76, of Yorktown, passed away peacefully at Bethel Pointe Health Campus on January 10, 2026. He was born in Muncie, IN, on June 8, 1949, to the late Loren Hartley and Mary (Taylor) Hamilton.

Kenneth had a remarkable career as a carpenter, during which he demonstrated both skill and entrepreneurial spirit by founding Timber Door Custom Cabinets. His craftsmanship was treasured by many, and his dedication to his work was evident in every project he undertook.

In addition to his woodworking prowess, Kenneth was also a proud Vietnam Veteran who served in both the US Army and the US Air Force. His military journey took him to various Air Force bases, including Lackland in San Antonio, TX, Chanute in Illinois, Kincheloe in St. Mary, MI, and Tan Son Nhut in Vietnam, where he worked with jets and served diligently with the 6005th support group and the DEPO Convoy Unit. His service was a testament to his character and commitment to his country.

Kenneth was known not only for his professional achievements but also for his vibrant personality. A talented Elvis impersonator, he captivated audiences with his singing, closely resembling the legendary rock and roll icon both in voice and appearance. His love of music was further expressed through his membership in a band in his younger years with his brother John and friends, known as The Rivieras, who won first place in the Battle of the Bands in 1966. He continued to share his gift of song throughout his life, performing at church and various events.

Outside of his work and music, Kenneth was passionate about gardening and woodworking. He was particularly fond of tractors and farming, relishing the time he spent restoring several vintage tractors. His hands-on approach to life was reflective of his deep appreciation for nature and craftsmanship.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 42 years, Mildred Hartley; son, Brian Hartley; stepchildren, Sheila West and Thomas West; siblings, Carolyn (Todd) Dawson, Linda (Rich) Stafford, Kandy Morgan, Charles (Cindy) Hamilton, and Kerry Nay; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his siblings, John Hartley, Jerry Hartley, and Kelley Nay.

Services will be at 1:00pm on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Ballard and Sons Funeral in Middletown, with Evangelist Bruce Carrier officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00pm until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery in Middletown. Memorial contributions may be given to the ASPCA, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, at 424 E. 92nd St., New York, NY 10128-6804. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown. You may express condolences or share a memory of Kenneth at www.ballardandsons.com.
