Kenneth Bruce Hill was born May 19th, 1947 in Calhoun County Alabama. He always says he was born in Oxford, Alabama in the mill village. A small village of workers for the adjacent rope / textile factory. His Birth Certificate only lists "Rural" and gives the address of the fire station in Calhoun County. I don't believe they had an address where he was born. He was 5th in a family of 7 kids, and was the youngest for their whole time in Alabama. His family moved to Florida in search of work when he was in elementary school, settling in Davenport, FL. He attended Haines City High School, graduating in 1965 and attended Polk Junior College (Polk State) graduating in 1968 with an AA. He obtained his teaching certificate shortly after graduating college and started substitute teaching soon after. In High School, he worked at a fertilzer plant, a men's clothing store, and as a younger man he helped out at the drive-in for free popcorn and sodas. In the mid 70's, he got a job that he would keep for the next 40+ years, with the Florida Dept of Transportation. He started on a survey crew as the lowest man there, and worked his way up into management and office work. At the time he was one of the few people trained and able to use their computer system. He never forgot about surveying though. Throughout his life, if you were on a road he surveyed on or for, he would be sure to tell you all about it. As a younger man he loved working on cars with his friends and drag racing at various dragstrips around Florida. He loved bowling, and was on several leagues with his brother Allen through the years. He also loved sailing, and had a small sail boat that he used semi-successfully several times. He volunteered a lot of time to his son's school, and was there every Friday for several years, he would help them with whatever they needed. He loved college sports of all kinds, mens or womens - college basketball, college football, and softball. College football was his favorite, and he was a huge Alabama Crimson Tide fan - Roll Tide! He's passed that on to his son. He was never much of a dancer, but met his wife Vicki, in a bar, by asking her to dance. From that day in the mid 70's, and forward, they were together everyday, until her passing. He was patient in life, but not about being on time. He was a stickler for arriving and leaving on time, his wife Vicki, was the complete opposite. Which was part of their charm. He was a good friend, a good husband, a good father and a good man. He rarely had a bad word to say about anyone and would always try to be understanding, helpful and turn the other cheek. He would help wherever and whoever he could, and rarely put himself first. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and 4 siblings Vicki (Larrison) Hill - Wife Joseph Cullen Hill - Father Margaret "Maggie" (Brimer) Hill - Mother David "Sonny" Hill - Brother Joyce Hill - Sister Allen Hill - Brother Deany Hill - Sister He is survived by 2 brothers, 1 son, 4 grandchildren, and other extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
