We noticed Ken's presence soon after he moved into a house on our street, and went out to greet him. Shortly after that, we invited him over for dinner and soon he and another neighbor were coming over a couple of times a month for dinner and to play cards. What a shrewd poker player Ken was! He loved attending our annual Winter Solstice celebrations and enthusiastically read his part aloud during the ritual. During the summers when he was up at Lopez, we would gather on his patio for an alfresco supper (with his blessing) and toast his friendship in absentia. Ken was a joy to be around with his worldly knowledge and interesting experiential perspective on just about everything. During the last few months of his life, the three of us went on weekly grocery shopping jaunts together since traveling around by bus was becoming problematical for Ken. We treasure our memory of the last day of errand running with him, during which he was happily singing "Jambalaya" to us during the drive. Rest in peace, dear Ken--we sure miss you and always will!
